Bailey’s Dairy Farm Painting

Here’s the process of one of my favorite commissioned paintings. This farm burned in the 1960’s and the grandson of the owner commissioned a painting of the original dairy. A lot of love went into this one, especially because this farm was a neighbor to my own family farm. Because the buildings are gone, and few photos remain, the layout was a challenge. My client works in AutoCad and was able to layout the buildings for me and even show things from several angles. After choosing a sky view first, we changed our minds and switched to ground level.

And here’s the finished painting. It’s 18×30 inches, oil on stretched canvas.

I loved getting the details of this farm from living family members. I called them all the time with questions like; were the barns painted? What color cows did they have? What color were the shutters painted?  It was so worth it! I hope that this painting stays with this family on this property for many generations to come!
